A while ago the Museums council had a grant for small museums to setup their own small websites – sadly the grant and the Museum council have gone the way of the Dodo – but the need for small Museums to reach out to their audience has not.
Having worked on a similar project a while ago I became aware of the educational and promotional advantages to a museum or gallery of having a well structured site. One that answers the basic who, what, why, where and when questions and that can offer an online collection to the public too.
We offer an off the shelf package. The site is available with one of three looks, each has a page to answer the five “W” questions – you’ll need to provide the text – and an online collection section. Depending on the collection and it’s focus we’ll work on the best way to present the items to the audience.
What is included in the price, and what’s not?
To give you an idea of what your money will buy you, here’s a simple list of what you can expect.
What’s in the price?
- The basic setup of the site – off the shelf.
- Adding the logos, icons and branding to the site.
- Putting the site online.
- submitting it to the search engines.
- Installing the Google Analytics package.
- Developing the online collection (up to 10 data points).
- Initial training on using the site.
What’s not?
- The hosting of the website on the internet (count on £30+ per year)
- The domain name – e.g. mymuseumname.org (from £6-8+ per year)
- Any logo, decal, image or branding production – if you need an help, we can talk but it won’t be covered by the price.
- Extra content templating – over and above the online collection package.
- Out of pocket expenses for my transport etc. for any face to face meetings. (we’ll need at least one – possibly more)
- Licensing of any bought in media, photos, video or audio.
